Paddling home from Tokmakia Island

Paddling home from Tokmakia Island

Beneath us only water Above us only sky Our minds as light and free As the seagulls up on high Our laughter bright as the shimmering sea Nothing left to fuss or fear Nothing else to do or be Nothing but this pure moment – here! *** [This part is less bright But it has a truth What made the sky feel even higher And the sea even wider And that one unfettered moment worth a thousand moments plus Was the foreshadow of our square houses in London and again running for the...

Pearls from the Aegean Sea

Pearls from the Aegean Sea

It is how we began, Map manoeuvres – our boats abreast together It is how we ended, The pearl-string of our shared adventures – connecting us forever Come then let us reminisce about our moments of bliss about the touch of the wind and the arc of the sun about the love, the shared laughter, […]

It is how we began, Map manoeuvres – our boats abreast together It is how we ended, The pearl-string of our shared adventures – connecting us forever Come then let us reminisce about our moments of bliss about the touch of the wind and the arc of the sun about the love, the shared laughter, the shared silences and the stress come undone Come then let us remember the simple things from which we drew such great pleasure And bead our recollections together Into an everlasting shared treasure … Remember there was yoga and sentience at sunset The goading of gulls and the rustling of rats There were fire-lit faces of friends along a rough and laden fisherman’s table And the stillness of the starry night and rest upon our super-thin mats Do you remember the song of the bucket drawing sweet kisses from Petra’s high, holy well? And that great human pleasure when our hunger found fullness And our gratitude for the Women’s Cooperative warm mousaka smell? Can...

We crossed together the silky mill-pond sea And under the palm fronds we made fire, drank our wine and took our first communal tea There was a windy night Wild waves and flapping tents and when our tents fell down a little bit of early morning fright The wind got wilder and soon we were marooned by the blustering storm But there was nothing that could make us girls feel forlorn There were crazy swooping seagulls, snakes and rats under the golden moon But there was nothing that could sink us in dark gloom There was a rat-infested house – soon cleaned and swept it became our haven and our fort There was a church veranda – soon decked with chairs it became our sunny deck and summer port There was a fruit bowl on our table and we found a deep well of welcome water And there was the communal wakeful watching after a gruesome midnight slaughter There was an early morning launch and a hurried island escape...

Shooting star

Shooting star

We were so beautiful Seven women under the jeweled night sky Our bare throats raised to the sudden silver streak of a shooting star Our stardusted hearts opening so far and wide and high On that far flung white pebbled beach We had outrun the neon blinding and habit’s numbing reach Wildly alive and daring […]

We were so beautiful Seven women under the jeweled night sky Our bare throats raised to the sudden silver streak of a shooting star Our stardusted hearts opening so far and wide and high On that far flung white pebbled beach We had outrun the neon blinding and habit’s numbing reach Wildly alive and daring we let our longings roam Far beyond the boundaries of what we dare to dream at home Free we were There Next to the silky sea’s lapping Bright and light enough to make our own song Cleansed and clear enough to hear our strong inner tapping Of what is needed and of what is right and what is wrong Together under that blazing star we sighed And made our wishes to be heeded But i am sure that in time we will come to know That together on Tokmaki island, we already had all we ever...

Life – wild wild beautiful life

Life – wild wild beautiful life

Here on these wide waters my mind clear of all thought and in my heart a long song from which the words have all gone All that remain Is the rythmic refrain Of the ebb and the flow The sun’s golden glow And God’s grace as far and as wide as the sea

In Search of Dolphins

In Search of Dolphins

In Search of Dolphins We found ourselves After a week of sun and sea Of virgin olive oil and fish After a week of living simply And so close with each other We return home Full of light and love Our dreams soft and easy Washed clean by the big water

Have you thought about how you are living?

The future will belong to the nature-smart—those individuals, families, businesses, and political leaders who develop a deeper understanding of the transformative power of the natural world and who balance the virtual with the real. The more high-tech we become, the more nature we need. Richard Louv
